British Isles

Fishguard

We chose to go out on the RIB and not visit the town. On the science boat we collected Plankton later analysis on the microscope the following day. We measured the salinity and temperature of the water, using different pieces of equipment.

Rathlind

Several choices here, Marion went to Glenariff on a hike to see waterfalls, fuchsias, red squirrels bluebells and butterflies. Roger took the leisurely walk to see Cormorants, gulls, Guillemot, Grey seals and a Shelduck

Staffa and Mull

The conditions around Iona were too dangerous for the rib boats so we could not anchor. The Captain took the ship around the island of Staffa so that we could see Fingal’s cave, which is owned by National Trust for Scotland. This is made of similar material to that of the Giants Causeway.

St Kilda

St Kilda is a UNESCO world heritage site with minimal intervention in the natural development of the island. As a result we were restricted as to how long we could spend there. This place is widely known as Puffin Island and there were thousand of them flying around.
